There are four Deputy Governors in Reserve Bank of India. Traditionally RBI appoints Deputy Governors in the following pattern:
- Two out of the four Deputy Governors of RBI are appointed from the RBI cadre and is selected from the Reserve Bank's Executive Directors.
- One of the Deputy Governors will be nominated from the Chairpersons of the Public Sector Banks.
- The remaining one will be a reputed economist.
Current Deputy Governors of RBI are:
- H. R. Khan
- R. Gandhi
- Dr. Urjit Patel
- S. S. Mundra
H. R. Khan and R. Gandhi are from the RBI cadre. (Recently R. Gandhi replaced Anand Sinha as the Deputy Governor)
Dr. Urjit Patel is a reputed economist.
S. S. Mundra was the Chairman & Managing Director of Bank of Baroda. (In March 2014, Deputy Governor Dr. K. C. Chakrabarty resigned three months before his term was to end. On August 1, 2014, S.S. Mundra took charge as the Deputy Governor)
